from front page to last. The only trouble with this book is that it caused me sleepless nights, as I couldn’t put it down. Very well written Mr. Walker. Looking forward to the next.”
I thought this book was amazing considering it is based on a true story. It had me hooked from page one. Beautifully written. Well done to the author. Look forward to more of his work in the future.”
“A wonderful and gripping read.
An intriguing story of very brave men, written with love for his characters, and a degree of humour to lift the spirits in the midst of traumatic happenings, with a delightful surprise at the end.”
Inspired by a true story THE STRENGTH OF WILLS follows two disparate people on an extraordinary and dangerous journey of over two-and-a-half thousand miles across war-torn Europe.
A Polish teenager, recently orphaned, crosses the path of a cantankerous man in his late sixties. In the beginning, they form a contrasting and volatile association, but as they travel together, the appalling experiences they share, side-by-side and apart, alters their existence way beyond their imaginations.
During my original job as car mechanic, I came to know a Polish gentleman who, due to owning an elderly Renault, was a frequent customer of the garage. I'd often visit his home to coax his car into life and after almost a year, he slowly opened up to me about his teenage life - the first part of my book is heavily based on his youth. So many terrible events made up this man's younger life. I wrote this, my debut novel, in an attempt to shed light upon some of the appalling situations through which he amazingly survived. This is how I came to know ‘Jedrek’ the teenage lead character in my book and the true inspiration for ‘The Strength of Wills’.
From car mechanic to cameraman
First published in a technical journal associated with cinematography; my writing rapidly appealed to the readers, I was commissioned to produce a series of ten articles on film lighting and camera operating. The Strength of Wills is my debut novel, self-published and released in June 2018.
